On Sunday they finally arrived. My Slovenian friends Robert and Etieen Milič and Matevž Hribar and brought along some useful things and goodies, among them also my mom's "strudel" which survived all the way from Slovenia to southern Tunisia.
Strudel reached Douz in good condition, but started getting a bit musty the next day, so my freshly arrived Europeans left it nearly all to me, while our new doggy friend Smiljan (this is how we baptized him) cleaned the dish. New military trousers also came (thanks, Darko!), and I was pretty much in need of them, since the old ones (those with a mixture of hydraulic oil, grease, diesel and sand on them) are nerla button-less and with a large hole in nearly every pocket, a towing rope (thank you Matevž, Etieen and Robi!!!), a new cartridge for the shower and a life-time stock of cucumbers and meat ragout (here in Tunisia one can get drowned, choked or overlaid with tuna-fish, but no meat ragout on horizon.
The next day we took off for a 430-kilometre loop, mostly off-road, so Matevž's Sava RockRider tyres could taste some African rocks, and so did Robert's Kia Sportage, mostly driven by his son Etieen. And the car made it suprisingly well! It reminded me a bit of my poor Peugeot Partner, years ago driven even across some Egyptian dunes, but the Kia made it remarkably well! And Etieen was even enjoying delicacies of the A/C inside, a luxury beyond the reach of us, bikers.
The off-road part was nearly wrapped at Ong Jmel, a Starwars shooting location, so as I promissed Darko, there are some images attached.
But the day was only concluded dining an excellent chicken in Tozeur, exchanging impressions of the full-day off-roading. Well, there was still some 100 kilometres to drive on-road before returning to our base-camp at Douz.
