Slovenia, also called "the hidden gem of Europe" or "the green heart of Europe" is a small Central-European country where different worlds meet: a wide variety of landscapes, four different cultural and gastronomical influences and three different climatological areas. All this is found on a very limited area, thus making it perfect for a low-pace off-road motorbike exploration.
With Desert Soul Adventures, you won't only enjoy the wide variety of motorcycle riding terrains, but visit the country's must-see places like the Bled lake, world-famous Postojna Cave, Unesco-listed Idrija mercury mine, the cradle of the famous white Lipizzaner horses, and relax on the Adriatic coast in the charming town of Piran - all linked off-road.
Start and finish in Ljubljana
Green forests, lake Bled, Idrija mercury mine, Postojna cave, Lipizzaner horses and the picturesque coastal town of Piran
Tour party limited to 4 riders
Smooth riding with occasional challenging stretches in one of the greenest countries in Europe
7 riding days
Arrival in Ljubljana
Arrival from your location to our hotel in Ljubljana. If flying in through the Ljubljana airport, the airport transfer is included in the price. Nearby airports you can use include Venice Marco Polo (probably widest array of flights), Treviso and Klagenfurt (low-cost airlines), Trieste (closest to Ljubljana), Zagreb (you’ll need to cross the Schengen area border if arriving via Croatia). Accommodation in a 3*** or 4**** hotel will be followed by tour briefing, motorbikes check and handover, dinner and overnight.
6-7 h
Ljubljana - Bled
We’ll ride our enduro bikes from country’s vibrating capital over the hills and through the woods to the icon of our country: lake Bled at the feet of Julian Alps, Slovenia's highest mountains, with the symbol of the country being Mt. Triglav (2864 m), also depicted on our coat of arms. Riding will be mostly easy and relaxed with occasional slightly technical details, but our light enduro motorbikes are perfectly suited for this kind of terrains.
6-7 h
Bled - Idrija
On the second riding day of our dirt bike motorcycle tour in Slovenia, the route will take us on forest trails towards Idrija where world's second largest mercury mine was functioning and is now listed as a Unesco world heritage site together with Spain's Almadén. There are plenty of things to visit and see there, so late afternoon will be reserved for exploring Idrija's technical legacy.
4 h
Idrija - Postojna
Amazing wooded terrain with again some technical parts (can be avoided) will be our motorbikes’ path towards Slovenia's number 1 attraction, the Postojna Cave. A motorbike tour in Slovenia wouldn’t make the country justice without a dedicated time to visit this amazing karstic phenomenon and admire one of the richest underground environments in the world.
6-7 h
Postojna - Lipica
After departure from Postojna, our motorbikes will take us to the world-famous Predjama castle. Later we’ll almost reach the Adriatic coast near the Italian town of Trieste, riding over the beautiful region of Karst, known for its special wine, delicious dried ham and lovely villages that rose through the history on the slightly elevated hilltops. Some call it Slovenian Tuscany. The region is also the cradle of the world-famous white Lipizzaner horses, so our motorbike tour will make a stop at the Lipica stud farm to see the horses and spend the night in the vicinity.
2-3 h
Lipica - Piran
A descent from the Karst plateau will pamper us with some splendid views of the Gulf of Trieste and the city of Trieste itself. The relatively short riding day - shortest on this motorcycle tour - will give us the chance to relax and enjoy the sea at the Mediterranean town of Piran. The jewel of Slovenian coast will make us feel indeed close to Venice and here you'll probably switch from delicious sausages, tasty dried ham and continental pork and potatoes to the fine Mediterranean seafood in one of the best fish restaurants on the Riva of Piran.
5-6 h
Piran - Postojna
You will discover the beautiful hinterland of the Slovenian Istria, a cosy region with hilltop villages, famous for its truffles. The ever greener and mountainous landscape surrounding us and our dirt bikes will reveal us we left the Mediterranean and got back to the continental Slovenia. Lush forests and stunning viewpoints will be our imagery on the way to the area of Postojna, famous for its Karstic phenomena such as underground caves, sinkholes and natural bridges, among other. Accommodation at a tourist farm. Dinner and overnight.
3-4 h
Postojna - Ljubljana
The last riding day on our dirt bike enduro tour in Slovenia will gently take us back to where we started from: Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. We should reach the city soon enough to check in the hotel, take a shower and enjoy a nice typical late afternoon lunch/early dinner in Ljubljana downtown, discovering some of its monuments and vibrating mediaeval cobblestone streets surrounding the charming riverside areas along the Ljubljanica river, full of cosy street cafés.
Departure from Ljubljana
Time to say goodbye (and to plan our next riding adventure!). If leaving through the Ljubljana airport, your airport transfer is included in the price.
