ABU DHABI AND THE FLIGHT-OFF

21.08.2015
Carmen and I are of the same opinion on the following: Abu Dhabi is more beautiful than Dubai, it is finer than Dubai, it is oh and so »very many nice«, as the Bosniaks would say ... pardon me, the Indians. For Carmen, this city offered the final experience of the Arabian Peninsula. This time around.

On 5 January, Carmen flew to Egypt where she would enjoy some of well deserved rest before returning home. The previous day, we joined forces to put our house back in order and avoid the shame of coming to the border in a pigsty. We set up our camp under a palmtree next to the Presidential Palace at the very end of the Emirates' capital city, washed the car's exterior (hehe, we have become self-sufficient even in this way) and interior. Robi, can you imagine that I managed to get on top of the roof using only one arm? I can hardly imagine it myself. And can you imagine that I also managed to come down the same way and was not (additionally) injured? I, myself, even harder. But I did it nevertheless. Meanwhile, Carmen excelled in putting the interior of our lodging in tippy top shape. The next day, I scented it using Omani jasmine ... but this belongs to the next chapter.

The last shisha pipe in the Emirates, offering a fantastic view of the city business district across one of the many bays ... actually ... the city itself is the business district!

Dropping Carmen off at the airport, I was left alone and a bit confused. How will I manage the motorhome on my own?As a matter of fact, I completely forgot during the last month that the entire truck and its rear cabin were designed so as to enable me to do everything by myself, provided I have one head, two arms and two legs. Well, except pull it out buried up to its axles in the sand. But neither could the two of us. Nor three. Actually, if it was buried up to its axles, it would have been impossible to pull it out. And I knew once again that I can do it. A smile. The road is taking me eastward, towards Al-Ain. The Eye. The Spring? God only knows which meaning they had in mind when they named this amiable, nowadays borderline city.
