Ever thought of taking a guided motorbike tour across the dunes of Africa like the original Dakar Rally riders? Ever desired to embark on the adventure of your life, on an unforgettable off-road motorcycle holiday?
Just before the desert gets closed for the summer months, we give you the last opportunity to enjoy the last dune riding this season with a quick, 8-day enduro experience in the sands of Tunisian Sahara.
Začetek in konec na Djerbi
Doživetje pristnega prečkanja neokrnjene puščave
Šotorjenje med sipinami
Večeri ob tabornem ognju
Sprva kamniti tereni, nato le pesek
8 dni, 25 motornih ur, 600-700 km
ARRIVAL IN TUNIS
Please arrive at the designated 5***** hotel in Tunis by dinner time on day 1 of your motorcycle tour. From there on, we will take care of your travel. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.
130 km
8 h
Surface: compact sand, tarmac, gravel, round rocks
TUNIS – DJERBA – MATMATA
On this day, you will be already riding in the desert. But first, you will take a morning flight from Tunis to Djerba (not included in the tour price, but can be arranged by us) where you will be greeted by your Desert Soul guide and taken to where our assistance truck and the bikes will be waiting for you. We will gear up and quickly get off the asphalt. The 130 km ridden on this day will take us across gravel roads, dry riverbeds, flat areas and through the mountains to Matmata, village famous for its troglodyte dwellings. Only the last 10 km we will ride on asphalt.
After checking into our troglodyte 4**** hotel, we will have a drink and discuss today's riding experience with the other tour participants. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.
150 km
Surface: compact sand, sandy tracks, rocks, gravel, sandy riverbed, dunes, maybe some tarmac
MATMATA – DOUZ
We will leave the hotel in the morning and get off the asphalt straight away. After traversing the mountains surrounding Matmata, the open desert space will expand in front of us. Fast tracks, sandy riverbeds and some low dunes will characterize today's riding experience that will bring us to the oasis of Douz, also known as "the gate to the Sahara". Dinner and overnight in a 4**** hotel in Douz.
+-100 km
Surface: soil, dunes
DOUZ – SAND SEA – TEMBAINE MOUNTAIN
After a morning stroll through the town and a visit to the local market to replenish our provisions for the desert, we will leave Douz on this day and take our motorbikes into the sand sea. The exact route and difficulty level will be chosen by the guide based on the proficiency level of the participants.
An alternative easier route following the support truck can be taken by whoever doesn't feel fit for the higher dunes that we will be riding on this day. After reaching the table mountain, we will of course park the motorbikes and climb to its top on foot. You will feel the soft breeze and enjoy perfect silence with a sight of endless dunes, stretching to the east, south and west as far as the horizon. On this day, our bivouac is planned to be near the Tembaine mountain.
100-150 km
Surface: gravel, dunes
TIMBAIN – KSAR GHILANE
This half-day stage will lead us directly across the sand sea, without support, to the famous tourist oasis of Ksar Ghilane, known for its thermal pool surrounded by beer-selling bars. Spending some time in the warm water will be much welcomed after the long desert stage. Dinner and overnight at the oasis camp site.
0-100 km
Surface: dunes
KSAR GHILANE
Rest day around the oasis pool. We suggest a trip to the Roman fort, playing with your motorbikes in the dunes or taking an excursion with camels or on horseback. Dinner and overnight in the oasis camp.
80 km
Surface: gravel
KSAR GHILANE – MATMATA
On this day, we will experience a completely different desert stage to reach again the Berber settlement of Matmata we will have known already from our first riding day. Desert gravel roads and open tracks, frequently crossing dry flash flood channels in the first part, will give way to impressive bare mountains surrounding us when already approaching Matmata. Farewell dinner and overnight in a 4**** hotel.
MATMATA – DJERBA – TUNIS
Early in the morning, we will take you to the Djerba airport from where you can take the morning flight to Tunis (air ticket not included in the tour price, but can be arranged by us) or extend your stay in Tunisia on the beach.
If you have been using your own motorbike, it will be delivered to you on an agreed date in Ljubljana (or transported on your expense to any other destination of your desire). End of our services.
Why bothering to bring your bike and gear to the desert? Rent one of our bikes and gear, travel hassle-free and save your time – we will prepare the bike for the desert and service it during and after the tour.
