I know desertsoul wasn't a good example of an updated web-page during the last days, but the reason is I was quite busy. What was happening? After fiascos at official workshops I went to a local mud-street car workshop where we repaired the bent part of Partner in one hour, then I went to another small workshop where we managed to lift the front suspension for 5 centimetres. Rear suspension is still pending but I'll try to make it at Peugeot Wagih Abaza today. Then my Partner is fully ready for future desert challenges. Again, Matjaž Maričič from AvtoPlus in Maribor helped with his advices and Peugeot Dörtler from Adana in Turkey replied to my e-mail in one hour on Saturday afternoon with detailed plan of the rear suspension and instructions for suspension shifting. Thank you, Fatih! www.dortler.com
But THE news of this week is arrival of Peter Bastjančič on Sunday to Sharm esh-Sheikh airport. So the final crew for the crossing of Libya is ready. I went to pick him up at Sharm and then we came back to Cairo, where BOKS (Barbara, Oliver, Klaus and Sandra) are still camping. He faced some terrible cultural shocks, mainly with the desert road and Cairo downtown traffic. Yesterday he seemed kind of more relaxed and started laughing when I was fighting the congested traffic in Cairo (now when we are two of us, we'll also be able to get you some photos of Cairo traffic). As we were jammed up for some 15 minutes without moving I established a nice honking communication with the rest of the vehicles on the street. It was funny even for me, now imagine Peter for whom it's first time in Arab world!
Sandra and Oliver got Sudanese visa yesterday, so we had a day of joy. Barbara and Klaus got their car importation extension a day before so they can theoretically stay in Egypt till October! Everything is running smoothly so today we'll split. When they saw Peter, BOKS have said I am in good hands and they can let me go. Landcruiser is heading to the Upper Egypt (South) today and Magirus is going to the east, back to Sinai.
Peter and me are staying in Cairo at least until tomorrow, namely Peter hasn't seen the pyramids yet (yesterday we were reorganizing our luggage – the Partner got extremely claustrophobic when Peter with all his reduced luggage appeared). Then we are heading south also, but have to be out of Egypt by January 20th because I haven't got my visa and car importation extension and I actually don't even plan to do it. Unfortunately, I have to reach final destination by mid-February, the job is calling.
